Getting Started with Advantage Play
Ready to start your advantage play journey? Here is a step-by-step guide for your first casino visit.
Before You Go
- Study the guides: Read through the machine-specific guides on SlotStrat to understand which games have AP potential
- Learn the math: Understand EV, meter rates, and midpoint calculations
- Set your bankroll: Allocate a specific amount for AP — minimum $500 for starting out
- Pick your targets: Choose 3-5 game types to focus on initially
- Download tools: Have the MHB Calculator ready on your phone
Your First Casino Walk
Step 1: Scout the floor
Walk the entire slot floor. Note which machines have progressive meters and where they are located. Do not play anything yet.
Step 2: Check meters
For MHB games, note the current progressive values and must-hit-by ceilings. For counter games, check the current counter values.
Step 3: Calculate
Use the MHB Calculator to determine if any machines are +EV at their current meter values.
Step 4: Play or pass
If you find a +EV opportunity, sit down and play at minimum bet (unless bet size affects meter rate). If nothing is +EV, leave. Do not gamble.
Step 5: Record results
Win or lose, document the session: game name, meter value when you started, ending result, time played.
